Superonda Sofa by Archizoom Associati for Poltronova – Italy, 1967
Designed in 1967 by the radical design collective Archizoom Associati for Poltronova, the Superonda sofa is a seminal piece of Italian Radical Design. Conceived as both a critique of bourgeois living and an exploration of new lifestyles, it broke away from conventional seating by offering a fluid, modular system without fixed hierarchies.
Made from two wave-shaped polyurethane blocks, upholstered in glossy red vinyl, the sofa can be arranged in multiple configurations: as a chaise longue, a bed, or separate seats. This versatility, combined with its bold pop aesthetic, makes Superonda not just a piece of furniture but a manifesto of 1960s counterculture and experimentation.
