Liisi Beckmann For Zanotta “Karelia” Armchair
Vintage 1960s Liisi Beckmann for Zanotta “Karelia” Armchair – Italy
These bold and sculptural Karelia armchairs, designed by Finnish-born Liisi Beckmann in 1966 for Zanotta, are icons of mid-century Italian design. Their undulating, frameless polyurethane foam forms evoke the shoreline contours of Beckmann’s native Republic of Karelia, rendered in vivid red vinyl.
As one of the first frameless armchairs ever conceived, the Karelia paved the way for a more expressive, experimental approach to seating in the 1960s. Their soft, wave-like surface cradles the body, offering both visual intrigue and comfort.
