Gustaf Westman Comes to Zurich

You probably know the pieces before you know the name. A mirror with soft, wobbly edges. A cup so chunky it barely fits in your hand — and somehow that's exactly the point. Gustaf Westman's objects have a way of turning up in your feed and staying in your head.

This September they're turning up at Geroldstrasse 11 instead. From 4 to 6 September, we're giving the shop over to a Gustaf Westman café — and Zurich isn't just a stop on the tour, it's where the whole thing begins.

Three cities, three settings

Gustaf Westman is taking his furniture and objects on a three-part pop-up tour through Europe this September. Zurich opens it. After us, the tour moves on to Bar Rascal, a natural wine bar in central Warsaw, and finishes at the Hotel am Brillantengrund in Vienna.

What makes it interesting is that none of the three is a showroom. A café, a bar, a hotel — each with its own identity, each getting its own setting. Rather than dropping the same presentation into three rooms, the pieces are made to work with the places they land in.

The best part of pop-ups, for me, is the personal encounters and the creative freedom — letting my design enter into a dialogue with each location across three very different settings: a café, a bar and a hotel.

Kiosk.io becomes a café

For three days our shop in Kreis 5 turns into a café, furnished throughout with Gustaf Westman pieces. Nothing behind glass: you can pick up the cups, sit on the furniture, and see how the colours actually look in daylight instead of on a screen — which, with these pieces, makes more difference than you'd expect.

Come for a coffee, stay to look around, bring someone who'd enjoy it.

New pieces, launching here

Who is Gustaf Westman?

Gustaf Westman is a designer from Stockholm who started out making furniture for himself and his friends. Curvy, chunky, unapologetically colourful — shapes that look like they were drawn with a thick marker and then somehow actually built. What began as a handful of pieces shared online turned into one of the most recognisable design languages of the last few years.

What we like about his work is that it doesn't take itself too seriously, but it is made seriously. A Curvy Mirror is still a proper mirror. A Chunky Cup still holds your coffee. The joy is in the form, never at the expense of the object.
